When it comes to world silver coins, the Austrian Silver Philharmonic is often overshadowed by more popular coins like the America Silver Eagle or the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. It is, however, unique in its own right and boasts a high level of silver purity with an intricate, finely crafted design. The coin was first introduced fairly recently in 2008 and has quickly risen to be one of the most popular coins to be produced in Europe. During its brief minting history, the Austrian Mint has sold well over 50 million of these coins.
The design on the coin, which its name is also derived from, commemorates the great Vienna Philharmonic; an orchestra which is highly regarded in Europe and arguably the finest in the world. On the front of the coin is an image of the pipe organ which is found inside of the Musikverein; the hall in which the Orchestra performs. Surrounding the top of the coin are the words “Republik Osterreich” which translates to “Austrian Republic.” Below the image are the words “1 Unze Feinsilber” which means “1 Ounce Fine silver” along with the year; 2014, and the coins legal tender value of 1,50 Euros.
The Reverse Side of the coin further celebrates the Vienna Philharmonic by depicting numerous stringed instruments which are played in the Orchestra. This includes wooden instruments such as the cello & violin as well as a harp, flute, french horn and bassoon. It is not necessarily the instruments that make this coin so attractive, but rather their arrangement and the attention paid to the small details within the image itself. Above this scene are the words “Wiener Philharmoniker” and “Silber.”
Aside from purchasing singular coins, many investors enjoy owning tubes. Like most other silver bullion coins, the Philharmonic is sealed at the Austrian mint in tubes containing 20 coins. Also available are monster boxes containing 500 coins; or 25 tubes of 20. All orders will be shipped as quickly as possible and will be sent out in secured and discreet packaging.
