The hawksbill turtle is so-named for its pointed, sharp beak, and is beloved throughout the South Pacific for its brightly colored shell pattern. A resident of warm waters throughout the tropical climates of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, the hawksbill migrates annually from Fiji to New Zealand. Today, the 2014 1 oz Silver New Zealand Niue Hawksbill coin is available in perfect condition on Silver.com.

The hawksbill turtle design was originally introduced in 2010 as the Fiji Taku. It is rare for a coin to be struck for a different nation of issue without the design changing much, but the hawksbill turtle imagery was already beloved by 2014 when the change was made by the New Zealand Mint.
When the coin was changed to a Niue-issued coin, few alterations were made to the overall design. The Fijian coat of arms was removed from the obverse design, and replaced by the popular effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used throughout the commonwealth at the time. The reverse hawksbill theme remained, with a slight change to inscriptions.
Each 2014 1 oz Silver New Zealand Niue Hawksbill available to you now on Silver.com is a perfect specimen according to the NGC. Coins in this condition have full mint luster, and feature no detracting flaws of any kind on the surface.
The reverse face maintains the popular image of a hawksbill turtle swimming through bubbly waters. The sliver of deeply-mirrored finish on the coin’s reverse now says “Turtle,” instead of the previously used “Fiji Taku.”
On the obverse you’ll now find the image of Queen Elizabeth II, rather than the Fijian coat of arms. This right-profile portrait comes from Ian Rank-Broadley, and was designed in 1998 as a fourth-generation image of Her Majesty to appear on commonwealth coins.
