The 2 oz Silver Mexican Libertad coin was first minted in 1996 by the Mexican Mint. Mintage numbers for the 2 oz coin have been regularly low, with the exception of 1996 (its inaugural year) with 50,000 coins and again in 2009 with 46,000 coins. Mexico takes pride in its independence from Spain, and this is celebrated in the Mexican Libertad Coin series. Silver.com currently has the 2014 2 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin available for purchase.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • 19th year of the 2 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin!
  • Consists of Two Troy ounces of .999 pure silver.
  • The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Mexico.
  • The reverse features the Winged Victory statue.
  • Total of 9,000 coins were minted in 2014.

The 2014 Silver Mexican Libertad obverse is adorned with the current national Coat of Arms of Mexico. Wrapped around the outer edge of the coin are 10 of the past versions of the official Coat of Arms used throughout history. Each of them features a Mexican golden eagle, many of them holding a snake in their beak, often times perched atop a cactus. Encircling the current Coat of Arms are the words ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above the eagle with oak and laurel leaves underneath.

The Silver Mexican Libertad reverse is graced with the Winged Victory statue in Mexico City. Also known as the Angel of Independence, the statue is a tribute to Mexico’s victory in its war for independence from Spain. In the background are 2 famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. There are many myths trying to explain their existence, but the most common ones speak of a romance between princess Iztaccihuatl and the warrior Popocatepetl. Iztaccihuatl is a dormant volcano, however, Popocatepetl last erupted in December 2000, forcing evacuations.

The Silver Mexican Libertad coin series is minted at La Casa de Moneda de Mexico (the Mexican Mint), which is the oldest mint still operating in North America. The Silver series was introduced in 1982 with the production of the 1 ounce weight coin. Expansion of the Silver series led to the production of fractional weight coins (1/20 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/2 ounce coins), more full-weight coins (2 and 5 ounce coins), and even a 1 kg coin. The 2 oz Silver Libertad coins are very popular among coin collectors, due to the high quality of the silver used to produce them and to their traditionally low mintage numbers. In addition to the bullion version, they are produced in proof, reverse proof, and antique finish versions. All of these are minted in .999 pure silver.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
