The nation’s East Coast served as the cradle of American society. It was here that the first settlers explored the continent and settled in its rough and rugged hills. The region is captured beautifully on the 2014 5 oz Great Smoky Mountain ATB Silver Coin, available now through

The Great Smoky Mountains coin was the first coin released in the 2014 production year of the America the Beautiful series. Located in the greater Blue Ridge Mountains within the Appalachian Mountain chain, the Great Smoky Mountains straddle the boundary between Tennessee and North Carolina.

America the Beautiful coins are released in groups of five each year, with the program launching in 2010. The series will run through 2021, and eventually will represent one moment or monument from each of the nation’s 50 states, five territories, and the federal district.

On the obverse face of the coin is the image of a humble cabin nestled in the hills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The reverse side of the coin bears the left-profile bust of President George Washington. The image was created in 1932 by John Flanagan, based upon an original bust sculpted by William Cousins in 1786.

Each of the coins in this listing is available in near-perfect condition, with its full, original luster still visible and no more than two blemishes on the surface. The deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish of these coins gives them the appearance of a proof product, even though each is a bullion coin.
