One of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world is the Gold Austrian Philharmonic. The coin pays homage to the Vienna Philharmonic, one of the world’s oldest orchestras. The Philharmonic is so entrenched in Austrian society that it is considered a national treasure. The Austrian Mint has used the same design on each coin in the series since its introduction, and now you can own a 2015 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin in brilliant uncirculated condition from These coins have a legal tender value of 25 Euros and are minted using 1/4 troy ounce of .9999 pure gold.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains 1/4 oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Minted in Austria.
  • Available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
  • Features a unique orchestra design that showcases the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna.

The Vienna Philharmonic orchestra was formed in 1842. The orchestra’s Golden Hall at the Musikverein and a selection of its instruments have been displayed on the Philharmonic coin series from the Austrian Mint in both silver and gold coins. The series was first introduced in 1989 with the minting of a 1 oz and 1/4 oz coin. Additional coins in the series came along in 1991 (1/10 oz), 1994 (1/2 oz), and 2014 (1/25 oz). Thomas Pesendorfer, the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver, developed both designs used on the obverse and reverse sides of the coin.

On the obverse side is Pesendorfer’s depiction of the Golden Hall and its pipe organ at the Musikverein. Engravings on this side of the coin include “Republik Osterreich,” the weight, purity, metal content, year of minting, and face value of the coin. The reverse side includes various instruments used by members of the orchestra. The image includes a Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, four violins, and a cello. The lone engraving on this side reads “Wiener Philharmoniker.”
