Canadian Maple Leaf coins are some of the most popular in the world. The Gold Canadian Maple Leaf broke the dominance of the South African Krugerrand following its 1979 introduction, and now, the Silver Canadian Maple Leaf is one of the world’s purest sovereign silver coins. Right now, the 2015 1 Kilo Proof Silver Canadian Maple Leaf Forever coin is available from Silver.com.
- Limited mintage by the Royal Canadian Mint of only 600 coins!
- Consists of 1 kilogram, or 32.15 ounces, of .9999 fine silver.
- Issued a face value of $250 (CAD) by the government of Canada.
- Struck with a proof finish and hologram features.
The sugar maple leaf is the official national symbol of Canada. It is used on everything from the national flag to the logo for countless professional sports franchises across the country. First Nation tribes in Canada were the first to enjoy the contributions of the maple tree, enjoying its springtime sap as part of their routine diet.
Although these coins are considered part of the Canadian Maple Leaf series, they bear different images than the standard gold and silver coins. On the reverse side of these 2015 1 Kilo Proof Silver coins are two maple leafs. The stems cross at the bottom, and each leaf is covered with a different color enamel finish.
The translucent colors represented the maple leaf’s beauty in both summer and autumn. Red is used for autumn and green for summer. Additional imagery includes the rays of the sun rising in the background behind the two maple leafs. Engravings include “Canada,” and the coin’s metal content, weight, and purity.
On the obverse side of the coin is Susanna Blunt’s right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s portrait is surrounded by engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “250 Dollars,” “D.G. Regina,” and the year of minting.
Each of these proof coins is a product of the Royal Canadian Mint. Among the finest facilities in the world, the RCM was founded in 1908 to help refine precious metals discovered in the Yukon Territories during the late 19th and early 20th century.
