The Silver Chinese Panda was originally introduced in 1983 as a proof coin, and expanded in the following years to include bullion versions. Currently, the Silver Chinese Panda is available in 1 oz, 5 oz, and 1 Kilogram weights on an annual basis.
Aside from the popularity and value of silver, the Chinese Panda coin is immensely popular among numismatists because of the changing design on the reverse. Each year a new design is used for the panda motif on the reverse, driving demand among collectors looking to have each design.
On the reverse side of the 2015 1 Kilogram Proof Silver Chinese Panda Coin is the image of an adult panda resting in the forest, chewing on some bamboo. Behind the giant mammals is a wall of bamboo shoots, with the face value and Chinese symbol for panda featured to the right.
The obverse side of the coin bears the same image that appeared on the first Chinese Panda coins in 1983. The Temple of Heaven, a signature building in Beijing for almost a thousand years, is featured in the center of the coin. Above the temple’s depiction, the Chinese characters for “People’s Republic of China” are engraved, with the year of minting below.
All Chinese Panda coins are produced by the Chinese Mint with the authority of the People’s Bank of China. With no mint marks, it is impossible to know which mints in the nation produce these coins.
