The Royal Canadian Mint has introduced new security features for the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf in 2015. First, a set of intricately machined radial lines covers the background of the coin to provide a layer of protection against counterfeiting. Additionally, a small maple leaf has been added below the primary design set. When viewed under magnification, the year of minting should appear within that maple leaf as “15.”
On the reverse side of the coin is the famous maple leaf design, with the coin’s purity struck on either side of the design set. Above the leaf is the word “Canada,” while the coin’s weight is listed below, along with the metal content in both English (Fine Gold) and French (Or Pur).
The obverse side features Susanna Blunt’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Last updated by Blunt in 2003, the image features the Queen’s name above her portrait and the face value and year of minting below. The radial lines from the reverse are also used on this side.
The Royal Canadian Mint has a global profile in the precious metals industry. In addition to the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf, it produces some of the finest gold bars in the world.
