There are few coins in the world produced in such low numbers, but facing such great demand, as the Gold Mexican Libertad. The official gold bullion product of Mexico, the Libertad bears historic images used on Mexican coinage first introduced nearly 100 years ago. Today, offers the 2015 1 oz Gold Mexican Libertad Coin in perfect condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Only 15 coins currently exist in this grade from NGC!
  • Ships in a protective plastic slab.
  • Consists of one troy ounce (1 onza) of .999 fine gold.
  • Issued a Mint State 70 grade by the NGC.
  • Features images of the Angel of Independence and the national seal.

The Gold Mexican Libertad coin has had a rocky production history since it was first introduced in 1981, a year before its popular Silver Mexican Libertad counterpart. The gold version was introduced in bullion in 1981 with 1 oz, ½ oz, and ¼ oz weights available. The program was suspended twice for long periods. Once from 1982 to 1990, and a second time from 1995 to 1999.

Today the Mexican Mint strikes an extremely limited number of Gold Mexican Libertad coins in both bullion and proof, with weights ranging from 1/20 oz to 1 oz, and totaling five weights in all. In fact, in 2015, just 1,440 coins were minted in total in the 1 oz weight!

Each of these rare, hard to find 2015 1 oz Gold Mexican Libertads is in perfect condition according to the NGC. The Mint State 70 grade means that each has its full, original mint luster, and no detracting flaws of any kind.

On the obverse you’ll find the image of the Angel of Independence in the foreground, with the twin volcanic peaks named after ancient Aztec lovers in the background. The reverse features the coat of arms for Mexico, as well as 10 historic versions of the seal.

The Mexican Mint was founded in 1535 by Spanish conquistadors looking to export the wealth of Central America back to mainland Europe. Today it is the sovereign mint of the nation, controlled by the federal government, and overseen by the Banco de Mexico.
