Though originally there were talks of a possible design change to the Silver American Eagle coin’s reverse side, it appears that the new 2015 coin’s design will not be altered. Remaining completely unchanged since it was created over 25 years ago, the American Silver Eagle has become the most widely recognized silver investment coin in the world and the US Mint’s most popular product.
On the front of the Silver American Eagle is the Walking Liberty design. The image shows Lady Liberty as she walks across an open field to meet the rising sun. The back of the coin features artist John Mercanti’s rendition of the heraldic eagle. This emblem shows the bald eagle as it supports an oversized shield. In its beak is a scroll, which includes the phrase “E Pluribus Unum,” representing our country’s unity. A triangular formation of stars appears directly above the eagle. The coin’s weight, purity, denomination and country encircle the crest in a circular border.
