This silver bullion coin weighs in at 10 ounces of 99.9% silver. It has also been assigned a legal tender value of 5,000 Dram in Armenia. Armenian artist Eduard Kurghinyan designed it, but the German Geiger Edelmetalle has been producing it since 2011. The coin listed here is 10 ounces, but the Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coin is also available for purchase in .25, .5, 1, and 5 ounce weights, in addition to 1 and 5 kilograms.

The obverse of this coin proudly depicts a scene that is well-known to everyone, not just Armenians. It’s an image of Noah’s Ark in the rough waters of the famous flood, with Mount Ararat in the background. About to fly in front of the Ark is a dove transporting an olive branch in its beak. On the face of the coin the picture is surrounded by the words “Noah’s Ark” in Armenian on top and English on the bottom.

On the reverse of the Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coin is an image of Armenia’s coat of arms. It is made up of an eagle and a lion on either side of a shield. Above the image are the words “Republic of Armenia,” in the Armenian language, with the same phrase in English underneath. This area also features information about the coin, including its purity, mintage year, fineness, and weight in troy ounces.

This coin depicts Noah’s Ark because it is considered an iconic image in Armenia. The reason for this is that Mount Ararat, where the Ark is said to have come to rest after the flood, was once Armenian territory. In World War I, the mount became Turkey’s and remains so to this day, but the area is still known as a major part of Armenia’s history. That’s why Mount Ararat is depicted on the coat of arms for this country and therefore the Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coins from Geiger Edelmetalle.
