Hawksbill Turtle coins were first introduced in 2010 by the New Zealand Mint as a Fiji issued coin. These original coins were known as the Fiji Taku, using the local-dialect name for the hawksbill turtle. Although the design has remained the same since 2010, the coin’s nation of issue shifted to Niue starting in 2014.
Each of the 2015 Silver New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle coins in this listing has a near-perfect MS69 grade from the NGC. Specimens such as these have their full, original luster, but will also display a maximum of two minor detracting flaws such as miniscule hairlines or contact marks outside the primary focal areas.
In order to earn Early Release designation, these coins must have shipped to the NGC or an approved NGC depository within the first 30 days of the New Zealand Mint’s official date of issue.
On the reverse face of the coin you’ll find the image of a hawksbill turtle as it swims through the waters. The matte finish on the design gives depth to the waters, which include bubbles floating past the turtle.
The obverse face bears the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. England’s longest reigning monarch is featured along with engravings that identify the nation of issue and the coin’s face value.
The New Zealand Mint is located in Auckland, New Zealand, and is a privately-owned facility that is not affiliated with the national government.
