  • Consists of two troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • Face value of $5 is considered legal tender in Niue.
  • Bears the Hawksbill design featured annually on the coin’s reverse.
  • Available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Niue Hawksbill Turtle coins were introduced in 2010 as a bullion product for the nation of Niue. The Hawksbill turtle is so named because of its sharp, pointed beak. The species is famous for its distinctive shell. A series of overlapping scales on the turtles back feature brilliant colors that are unique in appearance to this species of turtle.

The turtle was chosen for the Niue coin because of its significance in the region. Historically, the Hawksbill turtle was consumed by local populations, but today is viewed with reverence by people throughout the region. Hawksbills are commonly found trekking from Fiji to New Zealand each year, and are even sighted as far south as the Cook Strait.

Each of the 2015 2 oz Silver New Zealand Niue Hawksbill Turtle coins in this product listing are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins in BU condition have no signs of wear and tear, but breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks are common flaws. These special 2 oz coins are not struck annually, and are available in a special collaboration between Silver.com and the New Zealand Mint.

The reverse side of the coin bears a combination of mirror-like finish and frosted finish. The turtle is visible swimming in the Pacific Ocean in the primary design, which includes a frosted finish. A small sliver of mirror-like finish is featured on the left, and has the engraving “Turtle” contained within it.

On the obverse is a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. England’s longest serving monarch is surrounded by engravings that include “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “Four Dollars,” and “2015.”
