Louisiana has some of the most intriguing natural environments in the United States. While it is most famous for its expansive bayous across the state’s southern regions, the northern stretches are home to some of the largest forests in the country. The 2015 5 oz Kisatchie ATB Silver Coin is now available through as a celebration of the state of Louisiana.

  • Bears a face value of $.25 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Graded Mint State 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Available in deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish.
  • Part of the Early Release Series.
  • Ships in NGC plastic slab for protection.

Kisatchie National Forest is located in the northern and central portions of the state of Louisiana. In total, the forest covers 604,000 acres of land across seven parishes in the state. The forest consists of piney hills and large areas of longleaf pines, as well as some of the nation’s oldest rock formations dating back to the Cenozoic.

America the Beautiful is a 56-coin series from the United States Mint. Although it has circulation quarter imagery on the obverse side, these coins are not the same as the commemorative state quarter series the Mint released honoring US states and territories. The only images to carry over from that program are those representing Arizona, California, and South Dakota.

The reverse side of the coin features a lone waterfowl taking off from the swamps of the Kisatchie National Forest. In the background, the area’s longleaf pine trees stretch up toward the sky.

On the obverse side of the coin is President George Washington’s left-profile bust. This image was refined in 1932 by John Flanagan for use on American quarters, but was based on a 1786 sculpture by William Cousins.

Each of the coins in this product listing is available in near-perfect MS69 condition. These coins have their full, original luster, and no more than two minor detracting flaws. The deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish of these coins is more common on a proof coin than a bullion product. Part of the Early Release Series from the US Mint, these coins were received by NGC during the first 30 days of the coin’s release.
