America the Beautiful is a silver bullion coin series that includes five new coin designs introduced each year. First released in 2010, the program is schedule to run through 2021. The program will not come to an end until all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the nation’s territories are represented on the reverse side of a coin.
The second coin released in 2015, this 5 oz silver bullion coin features imagery from the Kisatchie National Forest in northern Louisiana. Located across 604,000 acres in the northern parishes of Louisiana, the Kistachie National Forest consists of forested piney hills and hardwood bottoms. It was designated a national forest by President Herbert Hoover in 1930.
On the reverse side of each coin is a wild turkey in flight. The bird can be seen taking off from the watery bayous of Kisatchie, with the engravings “Louisiana,” “Kisatchie,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and the year of minting.
The obverse side of each coin features the iconic left-profile bust of President George Washington. Engravings on this side include “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and the face value of the coin.
United States Mint coins traditionally bear a mint mark to identify the mint of origin. The bullion ATB silver coins bear no mint mark, unlike the uncirculated coins in the series.
