The 2015 1 oz Gold High Relief Liberty Coins continue the advancement the US Mint achieved with the release of the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin. Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Liberty image, created in 1905, could not be produced as he envisioned at that time due to limited technology.
Now, the United States Mint has the technology and state-of-the-art facilities to strike brilliant, high-relief gold coins. The 2015 Gold High Relief Liberty Coin features modern visions of both Liberty and the bald eagle.
On the obverse is Justin Kunz’s vision of a modern Liberty. She is featured in full-length figure with a torch in her right hand and an American flag in her left. The reverse side of the coin bears Paul Balan’s image of the bald eagle as it rises in flight, an olive branch clutched tightly in its talons.
Both Kunz and Balan are artists from the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. Balan’s eagle depiction was engraved by Don Everhart. Each coin in this listing is in perfect condition according to the PCGS. An MS70 coin features its full, original luster and no blemishes. First Strike Coins are received by PCGS within the first 30 days of their release in 2015, and arrive in a protective plastic slab with a PCGS Gold Foil Label.
