All 2016 1.25 oz Silver Canadian Bison coins available on Silver.com through this listing have grades of MS69 from the NGC. Considered near-perfect specimens, these products have their full, original mint luster, but also feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws on the surfaces.
Early Release Series coins must meet a strict definition in order to be considered for this label. Only those coins packaged and shipped by the Royal Canadian Mint to the NGC or an NGC-approved depository within the first 30 days of the date of issue are considered Early Release.
On the reverse face of each coin in the series is a design honoring the bison. This year’s design features a massive bison as it stands along the side of a creek sipping the cool waters. The nation of issue, purity, year of issue, and metal content are featured in engravings on this face.
The obverse bears the right-profile portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this image has appeared on Canadian coinage issued since 2004. The Silver Canadian Bison coin is the world’s only 1.25 troy ounce product, and was debuted in 2015 by the RCM.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 with its original headquarters in the federal capital of Ottawa. Today the mint boasts a secondary facility in Winnipeg, which was constructed in the 1980s.
