The Gold Chinese Panda is one of the world’s oldest gold bullion coins. When the market was much less mature than it is today, the Gold Chinese Panda came along as just the third gold bullion coin available to global investors. Today it is one of the most coveted coins, available in bullion and proof versions. The 2016 1 Kilo Proof Gold Chinese Panda coin is now available for purchase through Silver.com.

2016 has brought a good deal of change to the Gold Chinese Panda coin program. All of the coins in the Chinese Panda program are now weighed in Grams, with appropriate markings on the coin’s surface, rather than the Troy ounces used on most major coin programs. As a result, many of the coins in the series have different dimensions and true weights compared to previous years.
The 2016 1 Kilo Proof Gold Chinese Panda coin is the only coin in the series not to feature a new size and/or denomination. Previous releases of a 1 Kilogram Gold Chinese Panda featured the same ¥10,000 face value and dimensions as the newly-released version of the coin.
On the obverse face of the coin is the image of a panda hanging out on a tree branch that extends over a small body of water. Engravings include the coin’s face value, Chinese symbol for Panda, and the weight, metal content, and purity.
The reverse includes the famous outer façade of the Temple of Heaven. Located in south-central Beijing, the Temple of Heaven has been the home of social, cultural, and religious gatherings for more than 400 years.
Chinese Mint coins are not struck with mint marks, making it impossible to determine the exact mint of origin within the system. The government of China and the People’s Bank of China control operations at the Chinese Mint.
