As the official coin of the Mexican government, Silver Mexican Libertads were introduced in 1982 as a bullion coin, with the first proof coin struck in 1983. Regular production of Proof Silver Mexican Libertad coins commenced in 1986 with a 1 oz weight, with four fractional-weight coins added in 1992, and a 2 oz. and 5 oz. coin added in 1996.
The 1 Kilo Proof Silver Mexican Libertad is part of the youngest offering of Proof Libertads from the Mexican Mint. Introduced in this weight in 2002, production has remained low throughout the years, giving these coins immense collector’s value as few are available on the market.
