The Silver Canadian Maple Leaf is just one of many coins in an extremely expansive program from the Royal Canadian Mint. The gold counterpart was launched in 1979 as the second-ever gold bullion coin available to the public as an investment product, following the South African Krugerrand.
Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins were developed in 1988, and have since been joined by numerous weights in the gold version, a platinum coin, a palladium coin, and bullion and proof versions of the product each year.
Each 2016 1 oz Colorized Silver Canadian Maple Leaf listed on Silver.com today is in BU condition. These coins exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice the presence of minor flaws that include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.
On the reverse of each is the brilliantly colorized image of the sugar maple leaf. Found on all Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins, what makes this design different is the use of colors to bring the leaf to life. From a green center, the color of the leaf gradually transitions from a dark green to yellow, orange, red, and a burnt brown along the outer edges.
The obverse of the 2016 1 oz Colorized Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coin remains untouched. Only the image of Queen Elizabeth II, created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, is visible on this side of the coin in right-profile relief.
All Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins are originally struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. For this limited-edition release, authorized dealer Emporium Hamburg of Germany has colorized a small batch for release alongside six other popular bullion coins released annually by mints around the globe.
