Somalian Elephant coins actually debuted in 1999 as an issue of Zambia. The Zambian Elephants were available from 1999 to 2003, and featured a new design every year on the obverse honoring the African elephant.
In 2004, the Bavarian State Mint transferred the nation of issue on the coins to Somalia, and kept up with the use of a new design every year. While the obverse design field might change specific features each year, it always maintains the motif of the African Elephant in its natural habitat.
The 2016 1 oz Colorized Silver Somalian Elephant Coins available to you now are in BU condition. Coins in this condition have no signs of wear and tear, though flaws do exist. You may notice minor flaws ranging from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks from the striking of the coins during production.
On the obverse of the 2016 1 oz Colorized Silver Somalian Elephant Coin is the beautiful image of a massive bull elephant standing along the banks of a river. The blue of the water almost matches that of the sky, with a bright yellow sun high above. The elephant is captured in natural grey tones.
The reverse of all Silver Somalian Elephant Coins includes the coat of arms for the nation of Somalia, which includes a pair of leopards holding up the heraldic shield. On that shield you’ll find a singular star set against a backdrop of horizontal lines.
All Silver Somalian Elephant Coins are originally produced by the Bavarian State Mint, which is owned by the state government of the Free State of Bavaria. In this limited-edition release, 5,000 coins from the Emporium Hamburg have been colorized and set for release. Emporium Hamburg is a third-party authorized coin dealer in Germany.
