KOMSCO introduced the Gold South Korean Tiger Medals in 2016 with a proof option as the first specimen available in the collection. The series includes 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz options with a new design on the obverse side depicting the Siberian tiger in each year of release. Today, 2016 1 oz Proof Gold South Korean Tiger Medals are available to you online at Silver.com in near-perfect condition.

Medal Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside of a protective plastic slab courtesy of the NGC!
  • First year of availability for the Proof Gold South Korean Tiger medals!
  • Availability of certified medals is limited!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Graded PF69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Includes a UCAM label.
  • The obverse depicts a tiger’s head and neck.
  • On the reverse is a stylized design of the Korean peninsula using the letters from the Hangul, or Korean alphabet.

Proof Gold South Korean Tiger Medals were the first products available in the broader South Korean Tiger series. This collection of medals launched with three proof gold weights in 2016. The following year saw the introduction of the same three weights in a gold bullion version of the medal. 2018 marked the first release of silver bullion versions of the medal. Each year’s release has a new depiction of the South Korean tiger on the obverse.

All 2016 1 oz Proof Gold South Korean Tiger Medals in this product listing come to you with a protective plastic slab from the NGC. These medals are PF69 specimens with full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside the primary focal fields of the medal.

Included within the slab is an additional UCAM label from the NGC. UCAM stands for ultra-cameo and refers to the visual brilliance of the proof strike. UCAM medals have strong, frosted matte designs that contrast against the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.

The obverse of 2016 Proof Gold South Korean Tiger Medals includes a depiction of a calm, yet powerful tiger. The massive predatory cat is likely at rest and you can see its eyes staring directly at you. The background field is blank with a border design that includes jungle foliage.

On the reverse side of 2016 1 oz Proof Gold South Korean Tiger Medals bears the artistic rendition of the Korean peninsula. Rather than relying on political boundaries or geographic features in its outline, the design here from KOMSCO uses letters from the Hangul to fill out the shape of the Korean peninsula.
