The Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coin is the definition of a consistent product. Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins typically feature the image of a lone sugar maple leaf. For this Majestic Maple Leaf coin, Tony Bianco created an all-new design that features a background of swirling maple leaves. The addition to the center of the reverse design is what really sets this coin apart from the rest of the pack.
In the middle of the reverse design is a semi-precious drusy stone. The color and texture of the drusy stone add depth and contrast to the coin’s design, with its light-copper color and crystal-encrusted finish adding a sense of fall to the coin’s finish.
On the reverse face you’ll find Bianco’s design, highlighted by the drusy stone in the center of the coin. This is the first time a drusy stone has been added to a precious metal coin. Engravings on this side include “Canada” above the design and “20 Dollars” below.
The obverse bears the familiar right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. England’s longest reigning monarch is captured brilliantly by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, whose depiction of the Queen has featured on Canadian coins since 2003.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 to process and refine precious metals found in the Yukon Territories during the final years of the 19th century. To date, it has produced items such as gold bars to pay off World War I debt, the first .99999 pure coin, and winner’s medals for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, among many other items.
