When a bullion coin program is struck in both silver and gold versions, it can be difficult for collectors and investors to decide which one they prefer. Thanks to gilded products such as the 2016 1 oz Silver Somalian Elephant, there’s no longer a need to choose between the two. Today on Silver.com, the 2016 1 oz Silver Somalian Elephant is available with a gilded finish.

African Wildlife Series coins first launched in 1999 with the image of an African elephant on the obverse face. Since that time, the series has featured only the elephant, but used a new design every year. While mintage was originally limited in the series, it is now struck on a much greater scale than the initial 5,000 annual mintage in the early years.
Today, the Silver Somalian Elephant is one of the most sought-after coins in the world. With a new design every year, and coin’s available in both silver and gold, with proof and bullion finishes, it makes the perfect addition to any collection or portfolio.
On the obverse of the 2016 1 oz Silver Somalian Elephant Coin is the latest design in the series, which features a single elephant at the edge of a body of water as it bellows out into the distance. The image of the elephant on this side has a special 24-karat gold gilding finish, combining silver and gold in one bullion coin.
The reverse features the Somali Republic’s coat of arms. It includes the depiction of two leopards holding up a heraldic shield, upon which a single star is set against a backdrop of horizontal lines.
Each of these coins is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition through Silver.com. A BU coin is highlighted by its lack of wear and tear, though you may notice breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the striking process.
