Created by the North American Mint, the 2016 1 oz Antique Finish Silverbug Mermaid Silver Rounds feature the depiction of a mermaid floating in the ocean with a dolphin and other fish while a dilapidated ship sits in the background on the obverse of the round. The mermaid is showing off a treasure chest full of gold and silver. The chest reads, “Hold It, Own It.”
The reverse of these silver rounds features the same reverse as the rest of the rounds in this series. A ship is sailing on the ocean and gold and silver coins can be seen all over the design.
Each one of these rounds features an antique finish, which is achieved by applying chemical treatments to the rounds. This gives them an aged look that accentuates the depth of the design.
The Welcome to Silverbug Island series is the second series from the Silverbug community of Reddit. The series will have eight different designs, including the previously released Finding Silverbug Island and Kraken designs.
The Silverbug community partnered with North American Mint to produce the Welcome to Silverbug Island series of silver rounds, each of which were designed by members of the Silverbug community. The North American Mint is a privately owned mint located in Rochester, New York. The mint is family-owned and operated.
