Since 2008, the Perth Mint has released a total of two different designs each year for the Lunar Series II program. For the 2016 5 oz Silver Australian Lunar Monkey King Coin, you’ll find the image of the Monkey King. This design is available only for the silver coins, which were made available in 1 oz and 5 oz weights with a colorized design.
Each of the coins in this product listing are available as Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins with a BU grade exhibit no signs of wear and tear, but may feature a number of minor flaws, ranging from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks from the coining process.
On the obverse of the Silver Australian Lunar Monkey King Coin you’ll find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s image is captured in right-profile relief and has featured on the obverse of all commonwealth coins since 1998 after its creation by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The reverse of the 2016 5 oz Silver Australian Lunar Monkey King Coin has the image of the Monkey King, featured with brilliant colors and including two other monkeys in the design. Engravings include the Chinese symbol for monkey and the phrase “Year of the Monkey.”
All Silver Australian Lunar Coins are products of the Perth Mint. Founded in 1899, it is the oldest operating mint in Australia. The mint was founded as the third and final mint in the Royal Mint system in Australia, and today operates separate of the Royal Australian Mint as a state-owned entity of Western Australia.
