Chinese culture has influenced the design of many precious metal coin programs from global mints and refineries in recent years, but nothing is quite like the newest offering from the Royal Canadian Mint. The Tiger and Dragon are central figures in Chinese culture, and play an important role in the concept of Yin and Yang. Silver.com now offers the 2016 $8 Silver Canadian Tiger and Dragon/Yin and Yang Coin for purchase online.

  • Total mintage limited to just 6,888 coins!
  • Second coin with a hole in the design from the RCM since 2007.
  • Ships to you in a maroon clamshell box with presentation packaging.
  • Consists of 2/3 oz of .9999 fine silver.
  • Issued a face value of $8 (CAD) by the Canadian government.

  • Obverse features a unique twist on the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

  • Designed by Charles Vinh.

The Tiger and Dragon have been locked in a battle for dominance since the beginning of time. Powerful in their own rights, the Tiger and Dragon represent equal yet opposing forces in the world, making them the perfect representation of yin and yang.

In Chinese tradition, the tiger represents the qualities of courage and patience. On the other hand, the dragon is a noble creature of good fortune that is strong, adventurous, and outgoing. Both are captured brilliantly in this design from Charles Vinh and the Royal Canadian Mint.

Each coin features a few unique features. In addition to the Tiger and Dragon images, there is a yin and yang symbol above a center-cut hole in the coin that is square in shape. The coin was given a commemorative face value of $8 because 8 is a lucky number for the year 2016.

On the obverse face of the coin is an image of Queen Elizabeth II above the central hole, with “Elizabeth II” engraved above her head and the iconic phrase “D.G. Regina” engraved below the design.

The reverse side of the 2016 $8 Silver Canadian Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang coin features the image of a white tiger on the left-hand side, contrasted by the Green Dragon on the right-hand side. Above the hole, the yin and yang symbol. Below, the face value of the coin, nation of issue, and year of issue.

Royal Canadian Mint is the sovereign mint of Canada. Originally founded in 1908 in Ottawa, today it features another facility in Winnipeg that was completed in the 1980s to expand mint capacity. We are proud to carry a number of Royal Canadian Mint Silver Coins.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
