If you were born under the sign of the monkey, rejoice in your intelligence. It is said that those who are born in the Year of the Monkey on the Chinese Lunar Calendar are quick-witted, optimistic, and ambitious. The Perth Mint has celebrated the Zodiac and its 12-year cycle since 1996 when it released its first Lunar Series. Now, 2016 1 oz Proof Gold Australian Lunar Monkey Coins from Lunar Series II are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com in perfect condition.

The Lunar Series II coin collection from the Perth Mint ran from 2008 to 2019 and featured each of the 12 animals from the Zodiac with a date mark matching that animal’s appearance on the Chinese lunar calendar. The Year of the Monkey matches the 2016 date mark and the Perth Mint issued two designs for the release.

Lunar Series II coins are available in silver and gold bullion, with separate designs used on each one. Both designs focus on the monkey and include secondary elements that reflect the animal in the design.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of all 2016 Proof Gold Australian Lunar Monkey Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. In this image, the Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

For the reverse design, an adult monkey is shown sitting on the branch of a peach tree on the 2016 1 oz Proof Gold Australian Lunar Monkey coin. The peach tree is a symbol of longevity and immortality. Inscriptions of the “P” mint mark, “Year of the Monkey,” and the Chinese symbol for a monkey also feature on this side.

These 2016 1 oz Proof Gold Australian Lunar Monkey coins are available to you today in perfect condition. Coins with a PR70 certification showcase full, original mint luster and present with no detracting flaws of any kind on the elements or fields of the coin. DCAM stands for deep-cameo and refers to the contrasting strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.
