Silver Canadian Wolf coins are brand-new products from the Royal Canadian Mint that continue the rich tradition of designing coins with wilderness in mind. In total, this set contains four coins. There is a full 1 oz coin, and three fractional weight coins consisting of ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz weights.
Each coin has a face value that is not directly linked to the overall weight of the coin. For example, the 1 oz coin bears a face value of $5 (CAD), while the ½ oz. coin has a face value of $4 (CAD). The coins descend in face value to $3 and $2 (CAD) for the ¼ oz and 1/10 oz coins, respectively.
On the reverse of each coin is Pierre Leduc’s depiction of the beloved wolf. Dominating the reverse face, the wolf is visible with its ears perked up, eyes focused, and its full coat giving it a greater visual appearance.
The obverse of the coin features the right-profile image of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt in 2003. This is the first fractional coin set from the Royal Canadian Mint to feature a reverse design other than the sugar maple leaf.
The Royal Canadian Mint is recognized globally for the production of the finest silver and gold bullion products in the world. Founded in 1908 in Ottawa, the RCM now has a secondary facility in Winnipeg, which opened in the 1980s.
