In 1916, the United States Mint redesigned some of its most common and popular forms of coin denomination with new images for the dime, quarter, and half-dollar silver coins. A century later, those designs remain popular with American collectors and were honored with a commemorative release in 2016. The US Mint revived each design for a special centennial release of 24-karat gold coins bearing the images. Right now, near-perfect 2016-W 1/10 oz Gold American Mercury Dimes are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each of the 2016-W 1/10 oz Gold American Mercury Dimes offered here comes with a near-perfect certification. The NGC issues the SP69 certification to coins that exhibit full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detracting flaws present. Examples of acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be outside the primary focal fields of the coin. An SP designation is for those coins with hybrid visuals between Mint State and Proof.
The Gold American Mercury Dime was one of three 24-karat commemorative gold coins issued by the United States Mint in 2016. Each one was reflective of a newly designed denomination from 1916 and included the Standing Liberty Quarter and Walking Liberty Half Dollar designs as well. Each coin was given a weight based on its original face value. For example, the Mercury Dime was struck in 1/10 oz gold for this release. Similarly, the Standing Liberty Quarter and Walking Liberty Half Dollars were 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz gold coins in this release.
On the obverse of 2016 1/10 oz Gold Mercury Dimes is a depiction of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. This bust of Liberty’s head is known as Winged Liberty for the presence of a winged Phrygian cap on her head. The design features much of Liberty’s hair pulled up under the cap, with only a few curls near the front of her face protruding from beneath the cap.
The reverse field of 2016-W 1/10 oz Gold American Mercury Dimes includes the Roman fasces design Adolph A. Weinman created along with Winged Liberty in 1916 for the US dime. The design is representative of readiness for war and desire for peace, as the fasces is a symbol of power and war, while the olive branch wrapped around it symbolizes peace.
