Chiwoo Cheonwang has deep historical roots in Chinese and Korean culture and lore. Renowned as a military leader and earning mythical status as a God of War, Chiwoo was worshipped by the first Emperor of China, the Qin Emperor Qin Shi Huang. In fact, the subsequent dynasty (Han Dynasty) was founded by Liu Bang, who made sacrifices to Chiwoo before the decisive battles that led to his victorious founding of the Han Dynasty.
KOMSCO issued the first Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallions in 2016 with an original design that has since been slightly altered. In addition to slight alterations in 2017, the series has grown for the first time with the introduction of these 2017 1/10 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallions, the first fractional-weight options in the series.
Each 2017 1/10 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallion in this listing is available to you inside of a sealed assay card with black label. KOMSCO has a limited issue of just 25,000 gold medallions in this weight, with groupings in different, colorized labels. The black label issue represents 10% of the overall mintage.
On the reverse of the Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang you’ll notice the image of Chiwoo atop his warhorse in full battle regalia. This is a slight deviation from the original design in 2016, which depicted Chiwoo in his full armor suit standing on the ground rather than mounted on horseback.
The obverse of the 2017 1/10 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallion features the battle shield used by Chiwoo. This shield includes on its face the armored mask that Chiwoo wore to cover his face during battle, as well as inscriptions of “Republic of Korea,” “2017 Fine Gold 999,” and “KOMSCO.” Also included is the latent security circle design at the bottom, which features the medallion’s gold purity within.
