Canada is known for a number of different things, but one of the most common is the large amounts of snowfall the country sees each year. The country is even known as the Great White North and the Tundra. The 2017 1 oz Proof Silver Canadian Snow-Covered Trees Coins paint a brilliant picture of Canada’s winters, which may be harsh, but they are also beautiful. The image shows a beautiful landscape covered in a fresh blanket of snow, with a horse-drawn sleigh ready to take passengers through the beautiful winter scene. The trees hold the delicate powder, while a special tree in the foreground is a brilliant yellow-green made of Venetian glass.
The Murano glass tree was created by master glass makers Giorgio and Bernardino Vio of Murano, Italy. They were created especially for these coins. What makes these coins even more special is that each piece of glass will be slightly different, which means that every single coin will be slightly different.
The obverse of each 2017 1 oz Proof Silver Canadian Snow-Covered Trees Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created by Susanna Blunt in 2003, this same image has been used on many different coins in Canada.
Each of these coins will ship in a special capsule in a clamshell to protect both the metal and the glass. The coins can be both stored and displayed in the maroon clamshell that the Royal Canadian Mint is known for in the precious metals world.
The Royal Canadian Mint is located in Ottawa, and a second facility opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s. The mint opened in 1908 and gave the country control of its own coinage.
