Silver Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Coins are available from the Perth Mint and were first issued in 2014. The coins were designed by John Mercanti, formerly of the United States Mint. The wedge tail eagle imagery was the same in 2014 and 2015, with a minor change to these 2017 coins compared to the 2016 issue.
All of the 2017 1 oz Silver Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Coins listed here at Silver.com come with a Mint State 69 certification. The NGC certifies a coin MS69 when it features full, original mint luster accompanied by two minor detracting flaws. You’ll notice only minuscule contact marks or hairlines as the minor flaws on these coins.
Early Release labels are reserved for coins that meet stringent deadlines for certification. To earn the ER label, coins must arrive at the NGC for the certification process within 30 days of their original release date.
The obverse of the 2017 1 oz Silver Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Coins features the image of Queen Elizabeth II. The ruling monarch of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations since 1952, Elizabeth II’s effigy is routinely updated to reflect her age. This design is the fourth-generation portrait which was created in 1998.
On the reverse of the 2017 Silver Australian Wedge Tail Eagle is John Mercanti’s design of the eagle. Well known for creating the heraldic eagle on the Silver American Eagle, here Mercanti designed a wedge tail sitting on a perch.
