The Austrian Mint is one of Europe’s oldest operating facilities, having opened its doors in 1194 under the direction of Duke Leopold V. Today, the most popular coin program from the mint is its Austrian Philharmonic coin. Introduced as a gold bullion product in 1989, today it is also available in the popular silver and platinum versions as well. Today, Silver.com offers the 2017 Silver Austrian Philharmonic Monster Box with all coins in BU condition.

Silver Austrian Philharmonic coins are part of a larger series of national bullion coins from the Austrian Mint. The gold version was introduced first in 1989, and has grown steadily over time to include a variety of weights.
Like many other silver programs, the Silver Austrian Philharmonic maintains only a One Troy ounce weight. Recently, in 2017, the Austrian Mint introduced the first-ever platinum version of the beloved Philharmonic coin.
Similar to many other coin programs in continental Europe, the Silver Austrian Philharmonic coin has an interesting position in the world. Although it is struck with an official face value listed in Euros, the coins are only considered legal tender in the nation of Austria and not throughout the entirety of the Eurozone economic bloc.
The reverse of all 2017 Silver Austrian Philharmonic Coins includes a cornucopia of musical instruments used by the members of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. Engravings accompanying the design are in German and read “Wiener Philharmoniker,” which translates as Vienna Philharmonic, and the word “Silber,” which translates as Silver.
On the obverse of each 2017 Silver Austrian Philharmonic coin is the image of the pipe organ inside the Musikverein Golden Concert Hall in Vienna. Engravings on this face are also in German and include “Republik Osterreich,” or Republic of Austria, and “1 Unze Fein Silber,” or One Ounce Fine Silver.
Each of the 2017 Silver Austrian Philharmonic coins in this listing is a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen. Coins in BU condition show no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice minor flaws including breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.
