In 2017, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a unique version of its popular Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coinage. The so-called Gold Canadian Megaleaf was distinct from the primary gold bullion series in two ways. Most notably, it marked the first release of a 1.5 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin. On top of that, it had its own unique design. Right now, 2017 1.5 oz Gold Canadian Megaleaf Coins are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you inside of a protective flip or a mint tube of 15 coins!
  • Beautiful silver maple leaf design!
  • First-ever 1.5 oz Gold Maple Leaf!
  • Consists of One-and-a-half Troy ounces of .9999 fine gold in BU condition.
  • Bears a face value of $150 (CAD) backed by the federal government of Canada.
  • An effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse.
  • A silver maple leaf stem is depicted on the reverse.
  • Canadian artist Stan Witten created the reverse imagery.

Each of the 2017 1.5 oz Gold Canadian Megaleaf Coins is available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The individual coins are housed inside of protective plastic flips, while multiples are available to purchase inside of mint tubes of 15 coins. These Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coins have both of the Royal Canadian Mint’s latest security features. On the reverse is the micro-engraved maple leaf privy with the date mark visible under magnification, while both background fields have radial lines.

The 2017 Gold Canadian Megaleaf features a design of the leaves from the silver maple leaf species. The silver maple leaf is one of the fastest-growing deciduous trees in the world, eventually reaching an average height of up to 89 feet tall, with some trees growing to as much as 115 feet in height. The average spread of its branches when fully grown is anywhere between 36 and 49 feet wide.

For the reverse of the 2017 1.5 oz Gold Canadian Megaleaf, artist Stan Witten came up with a distinctive design that sets the coin apart from the standard bullion Gold Maple Leaf. This image focuses on a variety of silver maple leaves still connected at the stem. The leaves are in different stages of growth as represented by the varying sizes.

On the obverse of the 2017 1.5 oz Gold Canadian Megaleaf is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has featured on the obverse of all Canadian coins since 1953 and this is the fourth-generation portrait of the Queen during her reign. Created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this is just the second monarch portrait created for Canadian coins by a Canadian artist.
