The maple tree is one of the most iconic images of Canada. It is so popular in the country that the Royal Canadian Mint’s national bullion coin for Canada features the image of a maple leaf. Many other products from the Royal Canadian Mint also bear the image of the maple leaf.
Every autumn, as the temperatures drop and summer fades away, the leaves on the trees go from a bright green to brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow. The 2017 2 oz Proof Gold Canadian Maple Canopy: Kaleidoscope of Colour Coins are a tribute to the gorgeous maple leaves that can be seen falling from the trees all over the country.
On the obverse of each coin, you will see the popular right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The image was created by Susanna Blunt in 2003 and has been used on all modern Canadian coinage since 2004. Other engravings on this side include the Queen’s name and the phrase “D.G. Regina.”
The reverse side of each 2017 2 oz Proof Gold Canadian Maple Canopy: Kaleidoscope of Colour Coins shows the maple canopy in all of its glory in the autumn. The view up the tree trunk is made more realistic with a texturized finish. The leaves are shown in vibrant reds, oranges and yellows.
Each of these coins will ship in a maroon clamshell in a black beauty box, which is typical for many of the Royal Canadian Mint’s proof products.
The Royal Canadian Mint, headquartered in Ottawa, is the official sovereign mint of the country. Since opening in 1908, the mint has had one expansion; this expansion opened a second location in Winnipeg in the 1980s.
