On the reverse of the 2017 2 oz Silver Australian Rooster Coin you’ll find the all-new Year of the Rooster design for Lunar Series II coins. Gold coins in the series feature only the rooster, but this silver Year of the Rooster design includes a rooster, one hen, and three chicks in the design field.
The obverse of all Silver Australian Rooster coins bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has appeared on all Australian coins since she ascended to the British throne in 1952 following her father’s death. This fourth-generation depiction of the Queen comes from Ian Rank-Broadley, and was created in 1998.
All Silver Australian Roosters in this listing have a near-perfect grade of MS69 from the NGC. Coins with this certification feature full, original mint luster, but also include a maximum of two minor detracting flaws on the surface. These include the possibility of minuscule hairlines or contact marks, but are located outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
The Perth Mint unveiled two different designs for the Year of the Rooster release, in keeping with its approach for all Lunar Series II coins. The gold and silver versions of the coin both celebrate the Year of the Rooster on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, but the specific designs have variations that add to the value of each.
For the 2017 Silver Australian Rooster Coin, an entire family of chickens is featured. There is a rooster as the focal point of the design, standing tall and proud, as well as a hen and three small chicks pecking away at food among the bamboo foliage and flowers.
