There are two miracles of Jesus recorded in the Gospels that involve the water. In one from the Gospel of Matthew he walks on the water out to a boat with his disciples. The other convincing miracle involves Jesus awaking from a nap to calm the seas in front of his befuddled disciples. Today, the 2017 2 oz Silver Jesus Calms the Seas Biblical Coin is available to you online at Silver.com.

The Gospel of Matthew captures both of Jesus’ water-related miracles, but the story of Jesus calming the rocky seas comes from Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s gospels. As Jesus and his disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee an intense storm whips up the waters and crashes massive waves into the boat.

As the wind and waves threaten to flood and overturn the boat, Jesus is said to be calmly napping. His terrified disciples wake him and say “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown.” Responding to this, Jesus rises from his slumber to rebuke the wind and say to the waves “Be Still!”

All 2017 Silver Biblical Series Coins are available in brilliant display boxes that mimic the appearance of a bible. The obverse of the 2017 2 oz Silver Biblical Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy on these coins is the third-generation image created in 1984 by Raphael Maklouf, and was on circulation coinage until 1997.

On the reverse of the 2017 2 oz Silver Jesus Calms the Seas Biblical Coin you’ll find the image of a small boat embroiled in the rough waters of the Sea of Galilee. Men frantically work to control the boat in the moments before Jesus miraculously calms the sea.
