Silver Chinese Panda coins debuted in 1983 from the Chinese Mint, but had a complicated first few years of availability. The coins were struck in 1983, 1984, and 1985, but not made available for purchase in 1986. When the coins returned, they were available only in proof, with bullion production resuming in 1987.
Colorization is added to popular bullion coins with limited availability each year, and is often done by third-party authorized dealers. Colors bring popular designs you’ve known for years to life in a whole new way, adding enhanced collectible value and visual beauty.
Each of the 2017 Colorized Silver Chinese Panda Coins in this listing is in BU condition. Coins in BU condition have no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice minor flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the production process at the mint.
The obverse of the 2017 Colorized Silver Chinese Panda includes the latest panda design from the Chinese Mint. A large panda is featured in its beautiful black-and-white coloring on the obverse as it sits and eats a bamboo branch and its leaves. Engravings include the face value of the coin.
On the reverse of the Silver Panda you’ll find the image of the Temple of Heaven. Featured on all Silver Chinese Panda coins since 1983, this design has never changed and no colorization is ever added to its appearance.
The Chinese Mint produces all original Silver Chinese Panda coins for the People’s Bank of China and the government of the People’s Republic of China. No mint marks are ever used though, so it is unknown where the coins are produced precisely.
