On the obverse of the 2017 Proof Silver American Eagle is the image of Walking Liberty. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this design originated at a time when all American circulation coinage was being revamped. Walking Liberty appeared on the half-dollar coin from 1916 to 1947.
The reverse of the Silver American Eagle always features John Mercanti’s refined heraldic eagle of the United States. The image includes an American bald eagle behind the national heraldic shield, with arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Above its head are 13 stars representing the original colonies.
Each of these 2017 Proof Silver American Eagle Coins is a perfect specimen according to the PCGS. Coins with a PR70 grade have their full, original mint luster and lack all detracting flaws on the surface areas. AS a First Strike coin, these Silver American Eagle proofs had to arrive at the PCGS or an approved depository within the first 30 days of their release by the United States Mint in order to qualify for this designation.
DCAM, or deep-cameo, is a designation reserved for proof coins with a strong, frosted matte finish and deeply-mirrored, clear background field. This gives the impression of the design set floating above the coin’s surface field.
