Proof Silver American Eagle coins at one point had a mintage limit in place each year. The US Mint placed low mintage limits, such as 500,000 annually, on the coins. Facing higher demand for silver in the 21st century, those limits have been removed and often the coins are struck to meet demand, though the Silver Eagle proof has never surpassed its introductory year level in 1986.
All 2017-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle coins in this listing arrive in their original blue-velvet, satin-lined presentation cases from the United States Mint. Included with your purchase is a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, as well.
On the obverse face of the 2017 Proof Silver American Eagle you’ll find the Walking Liberty image. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman during a period of revitalization in American coinage, the design appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.
The reverse side of all Silver American Eagle coins features the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design includes an American bald eagle set behind the national heraldic shield, and it is clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. There are 13 stars above its head, indicative of the original colonies.
