Gold American Eagle coins are available in bullion versions each year in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and these 1/10 oz options. The 1/10 oz was the most popular of the fractional weights right away, outselling the other small options in 1986 while nearly surpassing one million in mintage that first year.
It wasn’t until 1995 that the 1/10 oz finally surpassed the 1 oz coin in a year, outselling it by a scant 23,000 coins. Through the end of the 1990s, the 1/10 oz would continue to be popular, outselling the 1 oz coin again in 1996 and setting a mintage record in the program with 2.75 million coin sold in 1999.
On the obverse of Gold American Eagle coins is the design from the $20 Gold Double Eagle, America’s last circulation gold coin. Removed from circulation in 1933, this coin featured Liberty’s image on the obverse as she walked forth from Washington DC with her torch held high as a guiding light for a nation just stepping onto the international stage as a world power.
The reverse of all Gold Eagles includes a family of nesting bald eagles. Artist and sculptor Miley Busiek designed this imagery in 1986 exclusively for this series, and it features a male bald eagle returning to the family nest with an olive branch as a female guards the nest and hatchlings.
All 2018 1/10 oz Gold Eagles listed here are in near-perfect condition. MS69 coins show full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule hairlines or contact marks. First Strike coins are those received for certification within 30 days of their release date, as set by the United States Mint.
