The Gold Philharmonic Coins debuted in 1989 with a 1 oz and ¼ oz option. In the first five years of availability, two more coins would be added. The first of these was the 1/10 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic in 1991, followed by the ½ oz coin in 1994. The most recent addition to the collection was the 1/25 oz coin issued on the 25th anniversary in 2014.

On the obverse of all Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins you’ll find the image of the Pipe Organ. Located inside the Musikverein, also known as the Golden Hall, the pipe organ has played an integral role in the performances of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

The reverse of the 2018 1/10 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins features a selection of nine musical instruments used by the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Included in the design are a cello, four violins, one bassoon, one Vienna horn, and a single harp. All 2018 1/10 oz Gold Philharmonics are packaged in either individual plastic flips or mint sealed tubes of 20 coins that feature the Austrian Mint’s new tamper-evident seals.

Founded in 1194, the Austrian Mint is one of the oldest in the world. The official sovereign mint of Austria, the mint is a subsidiary of the National Bank of Austria and strikes legal tender Euros for the nation of Austria in addition to its bullion programs.
