The Austrian Mint rolled out the various coins in the Gold Philharmonic Series over the course of time. While some gold bullion coin series launch with all weights at once, the Gold Philharmonic started with a 1 oz gold coin and a ¼ oz gold coin offered in 1989. By 1991, the 1/10 oz coin was the first addition to the series.
It wasn’t until 1994 that these ½ oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins were issued by the mint. The most recent addition was the 1/25 oz coin, which debuted in 2014 on the 25th anniversary of the program’s debut and has remained an annual release since that time. Your 2018 ½ oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic is available either in a plastic flip for individual coins, or mint tubes of 10 coins featuring the Austrian Mint’s new tamper-evident seals.
All 2018 ½ oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins are available to you in BU condition. Coins in BU condition show no signs of wear and tear, though they are not quite perfect specimens either. As a result of the normal production process, minor flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks are possible.
The reverse of the Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin includes a cornucopia of different instruments popular among the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. These include a cello in the foreground, flanked on either side by two violins. The background consists of a Vienna horn, bassoon, and harp.
On the obverse of 2018 ½ oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins is the image of the Pipe Organ located within the Musikverein, or Golden Hall. The orchestra hall is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic and is located in Innere Stadt, a borough of the national capital city of Vienna.
