The Gold Libertad coin from the Mexican Mint is the nation’s official gold bullion coin. Introduced in 1981 with three weights, the program has since grown to include five weights in total in the bullion range. The Gold Libertad borrows from the design of the gold Centenario, a coin released by the mint in 1921 to commemorate 100 years of Mexican independence. Right now, 2018 ½ oz Gold Mexican Libertad Coins are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each of the 2018 ½ oz Gold Mexican Libertad Coins listed here today with Silver.com is available in BU condition. Coins in this condition exhibit none of the common indications of wear and tear on the surface areas or design elements. There may, however, be minor flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.

Gold Mexican Libertad Coins have very low mintage figures when compared to the likes of the Gold Maple Leaf or Gold American Eagle coins. The ½ oz coin spent much of the early 21st century with a mintage figure under 1,000 coins annually. From 2003 to 2008, mintage was no higher than 500 coins, with 2003 and 2008 releases at just 300 coins each.

In recent years the number of coins struck has improved from that mark, but all of the coins in the series still maintain very low figures. The four release years prior to these 2018 ½ oz Gold Libertads saw mintage figures of 1,000, 1,100, 1,200, and 700 coins respectively from 2014 to 2017.

On the obverse of all Gold Mexican Libertad Coins is the design of Winged Victory, with the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background. This design is taken right from the gold Centenario coin, with only the image of Winged Victory altered to depict her in a left-profile relief and capture her as she is seen on the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City.

The reverse of the 2018 ½ oz Gold Mexican Libertad Coin features the image of the nation’s coat of arms. This design features a golden eagle and rattlesnake battling on a cactus branch, with a wreath below and the phrase “Estados Unidos Mexicanos,” or United Mexican States, above.
