The Lunar Series II collection from Perth Mint launched in 2008 upon the successful conclusion of the Lunar Series collection (1996-2007), and debuted with the Year of the Rat design. Now reaching its penultimate release, Perth Mint has more beauty in store with the designs for the Year of the Dog.
For the 2018 Year of the Dog release, designer Ing Ing Jong has created her customary separate designs for the gold and silver coins. While the Labrador Retriever features on the gold coins, the German Shepherd working breed is found on the reverse of all silver coins, bullion and proof, in the series.
Your 2018 1 oz Proof Silver Australian Dog Coin is available inside of the iconic clamshell of the Perth Mint. This red-and-black case arrives inside of a Lunar Series II-themed presentation shipper and includes an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity for your coin.
The reverse of all 2018 1 oz Proof Silver Australian Dog Coins features the image of two German Shepherds. Known as a strong working breed, the German Shepherd is now commonly used in service roles in human society that include work alongside police forces and military units around the globe. This design captures two dogs, one adult and one puppy, lying in a field with Chinese peony flowers in the background.
On the obverse of the Proof Silver Australian Dog Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The right-profile portrait of the Queen has appeared on British and commonwealth coinage since her ascension to the throne in 1952, and is regularly updated to reflect her age on the throne. This is the fourth-generation design created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
