In recent years, the Royal Canadian Mint has expanded its Bullion DNA security features to various coins in its lineup. The Maple Leaf Series is chief among those coins, with the 2018 1 oz Platinum Maple Leaf featuring the full Bullion DNA program for the first time. The coins have micro-engraved, laser-etched maple leaf privy marks on the reverse with a two-digit code included inside the maple leaf. Visible under magnification you’ll see “18,” to mark the year of issue for the coin.

Your 2018 Platinum Maple Leaf coin purchased here today is in BU condition. Coins in this condition show no signs of wear and tear, although minor flaws from the production process are possible. These flaws are limited to breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.

On the obverse of all Canadian Maple Leaf Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Captured in right-profile relief, it is the fourth-generation portrait of Her Majesty and just the second on Canadian coinage ever created by a Canadian artist. This particular design was developed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt.

The reverse of all 2018 1 oz Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf Coins includes the sugar maple leaf design in the center, with a background of radial lines for added security and the Bullion DNA program’s maple leaf privy mark in the lower-right field of the coin. Other features include engravings of the weight, purity, metal content, and nation of issue for the coin.
