The result is a coin with a beautiful contrast between the foreground and background. These particular coins have a high-relief strike that delivers deeper background visuals and higher 3D relief on the design elements.

Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse of the 2018 Proof Silver Kookaburras. This effigy of the Queen is the fifth-generation portrait for Australian coins and was originally designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England. The right-profile bust of the Queen shows her wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Rumored to be her favorite tiara, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland piece was gifted to her grandmother, Mary of Teck, upon her marriage to the future King George V of England.
A kookaburra is shown flying in front of a harvest moon in a nighttime setting on the reverse face of 2018 1 oz Proof Silver Kookaburras. The kookaburra’s wings are flapped out behind its figure as it heads down to its nest for the night while the harvest moon rises into the night sky in the background. The kookaburra’s call is most commonly heard at dusk as the moon rises and it settles in for the night, and again at dawn as the sun rises and the birds awake for the day.
