The Iowa tribe inhabited the Great Lakes region of North America during prehistoric times, but by the 15th century had begun a migration to the areas around present-day Iowa. From the 15th to 18th centuries, the Iowa people inhabited much of Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri, but would eventually cede those lands to the federal government and were resettled along the Kansas-Nebraska border.
