Artist A.V. Baklanov designed both the obverse and reverse images used on the Russian Saint George collection, though his design of the double-headed eagle from the Bank of Russia seal is based on work from another Russian artist named Ivan Bilibin, which was originally designed in 1917.
On the obverse side of the 2018 1 oz Silver Russian Saint George Coin is the image of the crowned, double-headed eagle from the coat of arms of the Russian Federation. Previous issues of the Russian Saint George coins featured a double-headed eagle seal as used by the Bank of Russia, but this more ornate design comes from the Russian Federation’s seal. Inscriptions on this side in Cyrillic include “Russian Federation,” “Bank of Russia,” and “3 Rubles.” The date, purity, and weight are engraved on the left and right of the design.
The reverse of the 2018 Silver Russian Saint George Coins bears a simpler design field with no inscriptions. All you’ll see on this side of the coin is a victorious Saint George on horseback as he drives his spear through the body head of the dragon to slay the beast.
